Pinpoint Test H: The Washer Pump Is Inoperative

  1. H1 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW24 (GY) FOR GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Washer Pump Motor C1397
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the resistance between washer pump C1397-1, circuit CRW24 (GY) harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H3.
    2. NO  : Go to  H2.
  2. H2 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW24 (GY) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125
    • Measure the resistance between windshield wiper motor C125-7, circuit CRW24 (GY), harness side and washer pump C1397-1, circuit CRW24 (GY) harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H14.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. H3 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW23 (VT/GN) FOR GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between washer pump C1397-2, circuit CRW23 (VT/GN) harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H6.
    2. NO  : Go to  H4.
  4. H4 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW23 (VT/GN) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Rear Window Wiper Motor C476
    • Measure the resistance between rear window wiper motor C476-6, circuit CRW23 (VT/GN), harness side and washer pump C1397-2, circuit CRW23 (VT/GN) harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H5.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. H5 CHECK CIRCUIT GD149 (BK/GY) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between rear window wiper motor C476-5, circuit GD149 (BK/GY), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H15.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. H6 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW24 (GY) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between washer pump C1397-1, circuit CRW24 (GY) harness side and ground while depressing the multi-function switch to the wash position.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H10.
    2. NO  : Go to  H7.
  7. H7 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW24 (GY) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125
    • Measure the resistance between washer pump C1397-1, circuit CRW24 (BU/WH) harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H8.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. H8 CHECK THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Multi-Function Switch C202
    • Carry out the Multi-Function Switch Component Test. Refer to appropriate COMPONENT TESTING article.
    • Did the multi-function switch pass the component test? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H9.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new multi-function switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. H9 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW07 (GY/BN) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between windshield wiper motor C125-12, circuit CRW07 (GY/BN) harness side and multi-function switch C202-10, circuit CRW07 (GY/BN) harness side; and between multi-function switch C202-10, circuit CRW07 (GY/BN) harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between multi-function switch and wiper motor; and greater than 10,000 ohms between multi-function switch and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H14.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  10. H10 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW23 (VT/GN) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Measure the voltage between washer pump C1397-2, circuit CRW23 (VT/GN) harness side and ground while depressing the multi-function switch to the rear wash position.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new washer pump. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  H11.
  11. H11 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW23 (VT/GN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Rear Window Wiper Motor C476
    • Measure the resistance between washer pump C1397-2, circuit CRW23 (VT/GN) harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H12.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  12. H12 CHECK THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Multi-Function Switch C202
    • Carry out the Multi-Function Switch Component Test. Refer to appropriate COMPONENT TESTING article.
    • Did the multi-function switch pass the component test? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H13.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new multi-function switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
  13. H13 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW20 (GY/YE) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between rear window wiper motor C476-3, circuit CRW20 (GY/YE) harness side and multi-function switch C202-14, circuit CRW20 (GY/YE) harness side; and between multi-function switch C202-14, circuit CRW20 (GY/YE) harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between multi-function switch and wiper motor; and greater than 10,000 ohms between multi-function switch and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H15.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  14. H14 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR 
    • Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
    • Check for:
      • liftgate glass open.
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
    • Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Windshield . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  15. H15 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR 
    • Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
    • Check for:
      • liftgate glass open.
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
    • Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new rear window wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Rear Window . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
