Removal & Installation (Rear Parking Brake Cable)

- Verify the parking brake control is fully released. Relieve the tension on the parking brake system. Pull down on the parking brake intermediate cable. Insert a 5/32" (4 mm) drill bit or equivalent retainer in the parking brake control. See Figure.
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove the drum brake shoes. See BRAKE SHOES .
- Disconnect the parking brake intermediate cable from the left parking brake rear cable and conduit.
- Separate the right parking brake rear cable and conduit from the left parking brake rear cable and conduit at the parking brake cable equalizer. See Fig 5.
- Remove the right parking brake rear cable and wireform bracket. See Fig 6.
- Remove the left parking brake rear cable and conduit from the parking brake cable bracket. See Fig 7.
- Compress the parking brake cable clip.
- Open the retaining clip.
- Remove the left parking brake rear cable and conduit from the parking brake cable bracket.
- Remove the right parking brake rear cable and conduit from the right hydraulic brake line clips. See Fig 8.
- Unclip the parking brake rear cable and conduit from the brake line clip on top of the rear axle housing. See Fig 9.
- Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever. See Fig 10.
- Compress the retainer fingers. Remove the parking brake rear cable and conduit. See Fig 11.
- To install, reverse removal procedure.
NOTE:
Disconnect the parking brake intermediate cable from the locating hole end of the connector. See Fig 4.
