Master Cylinder: Disassembly

  1. Remove master cylinder. See MASTER CYLINDER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Clean outside of master cylinder.
  3. Remove the brake master cylinder filler cap and drain the remaining brake fluid.
  4. Mount the brake master cylinder in a soft-jawed vise.
  5. On cruise control equipped vehicles, remove the deactivator switch (brake pressure switch). See Fig 1.
  6. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir. See Figure.
  7. Depress the primary piston and remove the snap ring. See Fig 2.
  8. Remove the primary and secondary piston. See Fig 3 and Fig 4 .
  9. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean and inspect the brake master cylinder bore for damage. If the brake master cylinder bore is damaged, install a new brake master cylinder.
