Removal & Installation - Lining

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove the rotor. See REAR BRAKE ROTOR .
- Disconnect the rear parking brake cable at the parking brake intermediate cable. See Fig 1.
- Disconnect the parking brake cable at the parking brake lever. See Fig 2.
- Remove outboard brake shoe retracting spring. See Fig 3.
- Remove the brake shoe adjusting screw spring. See Fig 4.
- Remove brake shoe adjusting screw. Remove brake shoe hold-down springs. See Fig 3.
- Remove parking brake shoes along with the inboard brake shoe retracting spring. See Fig 5.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Adjust parking brake shoes. Use the Brake Adjusting Gauge (D81L-1103-A), or equivalent, to set the rear brake shoe and lining diameter to 0.030" (0.76 mm) less than the inside diameter of the drum portion of the rear disc brake rotor. See PARKING BRAKE under ADJUSTMENTS.
- Burnish the parking brake shoe and linings.
- Accelerate the vehicle to 25 MPH.
- Shift the transmission to NEUTRAL.
- Slowly apply the parking brake control to approximately one-half to three-quarters of its travel.
- Allow the vehicle to come to a complete stop.
- Release the parking brake.
