Parking Brake: Control
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 13 other vehicles, including the 2004 Ford Pickup, 2004 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2004 Ford F450 Super Duty, 2004 Ford Excursion, and 2003 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. On vehicles with dual batteries, disconnect auxiliary positive battery cable.
- On vehicles with gasoline engines, loosen the bolt and disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connector. See Fig 1.
- Release 2 harness retainers from PCM bracket. See Fig 2.
- Remove the screws and remove the PCM and bracket assembly. See Fig 3.
- Separate PCM from the bracket. See Fig 4.
- On vehicles with diesel engines, remove the auxiliary battery cover.
- Disconnect the PCM harness connectors. See Fig 5.
- Remove the PCM mounting bolts and PCM. See Fig 6.
- On all vehicles, disconnect the harness connector from the parking brake switch. See Fig 7.
- Relieve the tension on the parking brake system. Pull the front parking brake cable and conduit. Insert a suitable retainer in the parking brake control. See Fig 8.
- Disconnect the parking brake release handle cable from the parking brake control. See Fig 9.
- Unclip and remove the driver door scuff panel. See Fig 10.
- Remove the cowl trim panel. Remove the pushpin. Remove the cowl trim panel. See Fig 11.
- Remove the parking brake control retaining nuts. See Fig 12.
- Lower the parking brake control.
- Disconnect the hood release cable from the parking brake control. See Fig 13.
- Disconnect the front parking brake cable and conduit from the parking brake control. See Fig 14.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
