Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Electrical
    • Smart junction box (SJB) fuse 29 (10A)
    • Circuitry
    • Parking aid sensors
    • Parking aid disable switch
    • Parking aid speaker (part of the parking aid module)
    • Reversing lamps
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  5. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  6. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
  7. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
    • Check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
    • Check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
    • Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article, No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.
  8. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • Verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
    • Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
    • Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article to diagnose no response from the powertrain control module (PCM).
  9. Carry out the network test:
    • If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
    • If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
  10. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the parking aid module.
  11. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Parking Aid Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. For all other DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
  12. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart .
PARKING AID MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX

DTC Description Action
B1299 Power Supply Sensor Circuit Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test B .
B1342 ECU is Faulted CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the parking aid module self-test. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new parking aid module. REFER to Parking Aid Module . CLEAR all DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
B2373 LED #1 Circuit Short to Battery Go to Pinpoint Test G .
C1699 Left Rear Sensor Circuit Short to Vbat Go to Pinpoint Test C .
C1700 Left Rear Sensor Circuit Failure or Blockage Go to Pinpoint Test B .
C1701 Left Rear Sensor Circuit Fault Go to Pinpoint Test D .
C1702 Right Rear Sensor Circuit Short to Vbat Go to Pinpoint Test C .
C1703 Right Rear Sensor Circuit Failure or Blockage Go to Pinpoint Test B .
C1704 Right Rear Sensor Circuit Fault Go to Pinpoint Test D .
C1705 Left Rear Center Sensor Circuit Short to Vbat Go to Pinpoint Test C .
