PINPOINT TEST I: DTCs C2768, C2769, C2778, C2783, C1305, U1901 AND U2527 - SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUIT FAULT

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
NOTE: The longitudinal accelerometer is integral to the sensor cluster. The sensor cluster is not repairable and must be installed as an assembly.
  1. I1 CARRY OUT THE RECALIBRATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Make sure the vehicle is not on a hoist and is sitting on level ground before performing stability assist module calibration.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Clear the DTCs. Carry out the sensor cluster recalibration procedure using the diagnostic tool.
    • Retrieve the DTCs.
    • Are any DTCs retrieved or does the recalibration procedure indicate a fault?
    1. YES  : Go to  I2.
    2. NO  : The ABS system is operating correctly. The condition may have been caused by an incomplete or inaccurate calibration.
  2. I2 CHECK THE SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUITRY FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C1462
    • Disconnect: Sensor Cluster C2296
    • Fig 1: Checking Circuit For Open
      GF0024670Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      • ABS module C1462-39, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side and sensor cluster C2296-3, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side.
      • ABS module C1462-27, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side and sensor cluster C2296-5, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
      • ABS module C1462-26, circuit 1815 (PK/LB), harness side and sensor cluster C2296-1, circuit 1815 (PK/LB), harness side.
      • ABS module C1462-11, circuit 1814 (WH/LB), harness side and sensor cluster C2296-2, circuit 1814 (WH/LB), harness side.
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  I3.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the scan tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
  3. I3 CHECK THE SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO POWER
    • Key in ON position.
    • Fig 2: Checking Circuit For Voltage
      GF0024671Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and:
      • sensor cluster C2296-1, circuit 1815 (PK/LB), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C2296-2, circuit 1814 (WH/LB), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C2296-3, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C2296-5, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Is voltage present?
    1. YES  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the scan tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  I4.
  4. I4 CHECK THE SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Fig 3: Checking Circuit For Short To Ground
      GF0024672Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
    • Measure the resistance between ground and:
      • sensor cluster C2296-1, circuit 1815 (PK/LB), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C2296-2, circuit 1814 (WH/LB), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C2296-3, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C2296-5, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  I5.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the scan tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. I5 CHECK THE ABS MODULE LONGITUDINAL ACCELERATION PID
NOTE: The vehicle must be on level ground, not on a hoist and at a complete standstill. Any vehicle movement will result in false values for this test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: ABS Module PID
    • Monitor the ABS module longitudinal acceleration PID.
    • Is the ABS module longitudinal acceleration PID value between -4 and +4?
    1. YES  : Go to  I6.
    2. NO  : CHECK the mounting of the sensor cluster. If OK, INSTALL a new sensor cluster. REFER to Accelerometer - Hybrid . CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. I6 CHECK FOR ABS MODULE OPERATION
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: ABC Module C1462
