Pinpoint Test A: The Parking Brake Does Not Apply

- A1 CHECK FOR MISADJUSTED PARKING BRAKE CABLE
- Adjust the parking brake cable. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjustment .
- Does the parking brake now engage correctly?
- A2 CHECK FOR WORN BRAKE SHOES
- Inspect the brake shoes for excessive wear.
- Are the brake shoes OK?
- YES : Go to A4.
- NO : INSTALL new brake shoes. REFER to DRUM BRAKE article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A3 CHECK FOR WORN PARKING BRAKE SHOES
- Inspect the parking brake shoes for excessive wear.
- Are the parking brake shoes OK?
- YES : Go to A4.
- NO : INSTALL new parking brake shoes. REFER to Parking Brake Shoes . TEST the system for normal operation.
- A4 CHECK FOR DAMAGED PARKING BRAKE CABLES
- Inspect the parking brake cables and conduit for damage, rust or fraying.
- Are the parking brake cables OK?
- YES : CHECK for other causes such as loose parking brake control or conventional brake system components.
- NO : REPAIR or INSTALL new cables as necessary. REFER to Parking Brake Cable - Front or Parking Brake Cable - Rear . TEST the system for normal operation.
