Removal & Installation (Except Hydro-Max)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 14 other vehicles, including the 2004 Ford RV Cutaway, 2004 Ford Econoline, 2004 Ford E450 Super Duty, 2004 Ford Cutaway, and 2003 Ford RV Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- On vehicles with Hydro-Boost, with engine off, pump brake pedal several times to discharge Hydro-Boost accumulator.
- On all vehicles, disconnect negative battery cable.
- Use a suitable suction device to drain the brake master cylinder reservoir. Remove brake fluid from the brake master cylinder.
- Remove the coolant reservoir bolts and position reservoir aside, if necessary. See Fig 1.
- If equipped with Hydro-Boost, disconnect the power distribution box cables. Open the cover. Remove the nuts. See Fig 2.
- If equipped with Hydro-Boost, remove the 3 power distribution box bracket bolts and position the box aside. See Fig 3.
- Disconnect the speed control deactivator switch harness connector. See Fig 4.
- Disconnect the brake fluid level switch harness connector. See Fig 5.
- Disconnect the brake master cylinder lines.
- If equipped with Hydro-Boost, disconnect the power steering tubes. See Fig 6.
- Remove the brake master cylinder nuts. If equipped with Hydro-Boost, remove the power steering tube retaining bracket. See Fig 7. Remove the brake master cylinder.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Bleed system as necessary. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
NOTE:
Discard the brake master cylinder nuts. They are a torque-prevailing type and cannot be reused.
