Brake Shoes (E150 & E250): Removal

NOTE:

- Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM .
- Inspect the rear brake assembly for the following:
- Rear wheel cylinder for excessive leakage that can contaminate brake system parts, and rebuild or replace as necessary.
- Rear brake shoes and linings for contamination and minimum thickness, above the backing plate or rivets, and replace as necessary.
- Return springs for heat discoloration.
- Adjusting lever contact with the brake adjuster screw.
- Remove the long brake shoe retracting spring. Remove the short brake shoe retracting spring.
- Disconnect the brake shoe adjusting lever cable from the brake shoe adjusting lever. Remove the brake shoe adjusting lever cable. Remove the cable guide. Remove the adjusting lever return spring and the brake shoe adjusting lever. Remove the brake shoe adjusting screw spring. Remove the brake adjuster screw assembly.
- Remove the brake shoe anchor pin guide plate, parking brake strut and the parking brake lever pin retainer. The parking brake link spring and the brake parking spring retainer will come off with the parking brake strut.
- Remove the brake shoe hold-down springs. Remove the rear brake shoes and linings. Remove the brake shoe hold-down spring pins.
- Pull back the parking brake cable spring and disconnect the parking brake lever.
