Cable Adjustment (E150 & E250 With Tension Limiter)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 14 other vehicles, including the 2004 Ford RV Cutaway, 2004 Ford Econoline, 2004 Ford E450 Super Duty, 2004 Ford Cutaway, and 2003 Ford RV Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Loosen the tension limiter nut to the end of the tension limiter threads. See Fig 1.
- Depress the parking brake pedal to the last detent position.
- Measure and record the exposed length of the cinch strap. See Fig 1.
- While preventing the tension limiter from turning, tighten the tension limiter nut to specification. Measure from the end of the tension limiter threads to the beginning of the hex portion of the tension limiter nut. See Fig 2.
- Ensure the tightening has caused the cinch strap to slip the minimum specified length from the length recorded in Step 3. See Fig 3. If the cinch strap has not slipped the specified amount, tighten the tension limiter nut the additional amount necessary to achieve the specified slippage.
- Release the parking brake control.
- Depress to the floor and release the parking brake control two times.
- Apply the parking brake. The parking brake cables must be tight enough to provide full application of the rear brake shoes and linings. Release the parking brake. The parking cables must be loose enough so that there is no drag at the rear wheels.
NOTE:
For E150, the last detent is 13 clicks and for E250, it is 17 clicks.
NOTE:
The tension limiter will reset the parking brake tension any time the system is disconnected, provided the distance between the bracket and the cinch strap hook is reduced during adjustment. When the cinch strap hook contacts the bracket, the tension limiter must be installed new to prevent overtensioning.
