Removal & Installation (Control)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Ford Pickup Heritage, 2004 Ford Pickup, 2003 Lincoln Blackwood, 2003 Ford Pickup, and 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Fully release parking brake control.
- Relieve the tension on the parking brake system. Pull the front parking brake cable down. Insert a suitable retainer. See Fig 1.
- Remove the front door scuff plate. See Fig 2.
- Remove the cowl side trim panel. See Fig 3.
- Pull to release the three clips and remove the lower instrument panel steering column cover. See Fig 4.
- On Blackwood, disconnect vacuum hose to parking brake release actuator. See Fig 5. Remove actuator mounting bolt. See Fig 6. Pull and hold parking brake release to expose motor-to-release connection. See Fig 7. Remove actuator.
- Remove parking brake remote release lever screws. See Fig 8.
- On F150 Pickup and F150 Heritage Pickup, disconnect the parking brake control release handle. Remove the screws. Disconnect the release handle from the release cable. See Fig 9.
- On all models, separate the parking brake control from the mounting bracket. Disconnect the parking brake signal switch harness connector. Remove the parking brake control nuts. Separate the parking brake control from the mounting bracket. See Fig 10,
- Remove the parking brake control. Compress the connector to release the front parking brake cable and conduit. See Fig 11.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
