Removal & Installation (Adjustable Pedals)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Ford Pickup Heritage, 2004 Ford Pickup, 2003 Lincoln Blackwood, 2003 Ford Pickup, and 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Remove the instrument panel opening cover. See Figure.
  3. Remove the nuts and the steering column support bracket. See Fig 1.
  4. Remove the stoplight switch hairpin clip. See Figure.
  5. Slide the stoplight switch, booster push rod and the bushing off the brake pedal pin. See Figure.
  6. Remove the brake pedal-to-accelerator pedal cable from the accelerator pedal by pulling on the cable retainer. See Fig 2.
  7. Disconnect the brake pedal motor harness connector. See Fig 3.
  8. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column shift lever. See Fig 4.
  9. Remove the bulkhead sound insulator. See Figure.
  10. Remove the brake pedal bracket nuts. See Figure.
  11. Remove the brake pedal bracket bolts, and remove the brake pedal and bracket. See Fig 5 and Fig 6 .
    12. CAUTION: Ensure the bulkhead sound insulator is not between the brake pedal and bracket and the bulkhead.
    CAUTION: The brake pedal and the accelerator pedal must be in the same position when installing a new cable or a new pedal. The pedals must be in the all the way forward or all the way rearward position.
  12. To install, reverse removal procedure. Position the accelerator pedal using the brake pedal motor, all the way forward or backward, depending on the position of the new brake pedal. See Fig 7.
  13. Remove the brake pedal-to-accelerator pedal cable from the accelerator pedal by pulling on the cable retainer.
  14. Position the brake pedal in the same position as the accelerator pedal, using the brake pedal motor.
  15. Install the brake pedal-to-accelerator pedal cable in the accelerator pedal. See Fig 2.
  16. To complete installation, reverse remaining removal procedures. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
