Glow Plugs: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. On vehicles with dual batteries, see DUAL BATTERIES  under MISCELLANEOUS.
  2. Remove the valve cover.

    1. Left

      Remove air cleaner outlet tube. Remove charge air cooler, turbocharger intake tube and bracket assembly. See CHARGE AIR COOLER  and TURBOCHARGER INTAKE TUBE  under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS. Disconnect fuel injector/glow plug 9-pin connector retaining clip and disconnect connector. Remove 10 valve cover bolts and remove valve cover.

    2. Right

      Disconnect Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector and hose. Remove charge air cooler inlet tube. Disconnect heater hoses and remove heater hose stand-offs. Disconnect wiring harness as necessary. Remove oil level indicator tube nut and position tube aside. Disconnect fuel injector/glow plug 9-pin connector retaining clip and disconnect connector. Remove 10 valve cover bolts and remove valve cover.
  3. Remove electrical connector retaining clip and disconnect electrical connector. Remove the electrical connector from valve cover gasket.
  4. Disconnect glow plug electrical connector and remove glow plug from cylinder head. See Figure. Clean and inspect glow plug tip for damage.
