Glow Plugs: Installation

  1. Install glow plug in cylinder head. See Fig 1. Tighten glow plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect glow plug electrical connector.
  2. Install the electrical connector to valve cover gasket and position gasket in place. Connect electrical connector and install electrical connector retaining clip.
  3. Install the valve cover.

    1. Left

      Install valve cover and 10 valve cover bolts. Tighten valve cover bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect fuel injector/glow plug 9-pin connector and install retaining clip. Install air cleaner outlet tube. Install charge air cooler, turbocharger intake tube and bracket assembly. See CHARGE AIR COOLER  and TURBOCHARGER INTAKE TUBE  under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS.

    2. Right

      Install valve cover and 10 valve cover bolts. Tighten valve cover bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect fuel injector/glow plug 9-pin connector and install retaining clip. Position oil level indicator tube and install nut. Connect wiring harness as necessary. Install heater hose stand-offs and connect heater hoses. Install charge air cooler inlet tube. Connect MAP sensor electrical connector.
  4. Connect negative battery cable. On vehicles with dual batteries, see DUAL BATTERIES  under MISCELLANEOUS.
