High Pressure Oil Pump: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. On vehicles with dual batteries, see DUAL BATTERIES  under MISCELLANEOUS. Remove air cleaner, inlet duct and resonator. See AIR INTAKE RESONATOR  under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS.
  2. Remove drive belt and belt idler pulley. Remove the turbocharger compressor manifold. See Figure .
  3. Remove fuel filter/water separator assembly. See FUEL FILTER/WATER SEPARATOR  .
  4. Remove high-pressure oil pump reservoir plug. See Figure . Using Oil Suction Gun, remove oil from high-pressure oil pump reservoir.
  5. Using High-Pressure Line Disconnect Tool, remove hoses from high-pressure oil pump. Disconnect high pressure oil pressure regulator. See Figure .
  6. Disconnect exhaust backpressure solenoid electrical connector and line. See Figure .
  7. Remove drive gear cover bolts and cover from engine front cover. See Figure . Position wiring harness aside. Remove high pressure oil pump drive gear bolt and washer from drive gear. See Figure .
  8. Remove high-pressure oil pump bolts and remove high-pressure oil pump and gasket. See Figure . Discard the gasket. If a new high-pressure oil pump is to be installed, remove high pressure oil pressure regulator from pump.
