Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Shaft Seal: Installation

All vehicles 

    CAUTION: To prevent refrigerant system contamination, do not allow dirt or other foreign materials to enter the A/C compressor.
  1. Clean the A/C compressor nose area.
  2. Place the shaft seal on the special tool. Lubricate the shaft seal and the special tool with PAG oil or equivalent.

  4. Position the shaft seal and the special tool over the A/C compressor shaft.

  6. Push the shaft seal onto the A/C compressor shaft with the special tool until seated.

  8. Install the shaft seal snap ring.

  10. Install the shaft seal felt.

  12. Install the A/C clutch disc and hub.

    Vehicles with 2.3L engine 

  14. Install the A/C clutch disc and hub bolt.
    1. Hold the A/C clutch disc and hub with the special tool.
    2. Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).

  16. Install the A/C clutch disc and hub bolt.
    1. Hold the A/C clutch disc and hub with the special tool.
    2. Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).

    All vehicles 

  18. Measure and adjust the clutch air gap by removing or adding A/C clutch disc and hub spacers.

  20. Install the A/C compressor. For additional information, refer to Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor - 2.3L  or Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor - 3.0L (4V) .
