Mass Airflow Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Ford Econoline. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Do not tamper with the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensing elements located in the MAF sensor. The MAF sensor and body are calibrated and serviced as a unit. Tampering may result in unit failure.
NOTE: The grommet used to seal the engine air cleaner housing at the extension harness must be fully seated. Failure to do so will result in unmetered air entering the engine.

Disconnect negative battery cable. On vehicles with dual batteries, see DUAL BATTERIES  under MISCELLANEOUS. Remove 4 air cleaner assembly bolts and loosen air cleaner outlet pipe clamp. Position air cleaner assembly to gain access to Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor electrical connector and disconnect MAF sensor electrical connector. Remove air cleaner assembly. Loosen clamp at throttle body and remove air cleaner outlet pipe. Release the air cleaner clamp. Separate inlet side from outlet side of air cleaner and remove MAF assembly. Disconnect MAF sensor electrical connector. See Fig 1. Remove MAF nuts and separate MAF sensor from MAF sensor plate. See Fig 2. To install, reverse removal procedure. Use alignment notch to correctly align inlet side and outlet side of air cleaner. When reinstalling MAF sensor, make sure wires are not trapped behind MAF. Make sure electrical connector is pointing up on installation. Tighten MAF nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
