EVAP Canister Vent Solenoid
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Ford Econoline. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
The Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system contains fuel vapor and condensed fuel vapor. Although not present in large quantities, it still presents the danger of explosion or fire. Disconnect negative battery cable to minimize the possibility of an electrical spark occurring, possibly causing a fire or explosion if fuel vapor or liquid fuel is present in the area.
NOTE:
Lubricate "O" ring seals with MERPOL® "O" Ring Seal Lubricant meeting Ford specification ESE-M99B144-B.
Remove EVAP canister. See EVAP CANISTER under EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS. Remove EVAP canister vent solenoid retainer by sliding retainer off of bracket. See Fig 1. Remove EVAP canister vent valve using a twisting and pulling motion. To install, reverse removal procedure. Inspect and install NEW "O" ring seals as necessary. Ensure EVAP system does not leak. Perform after repair procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE under EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS.
