Removal & Installation (4.2L)

NOTE: Spark Plug Wire Remover (T74P-6666-A) is required to perform this procedure. See Figure.

If an original spark plug is reused, make sure it is installed in the same cylinder from which it was taken. New spark plugs can be used in any cylinder.

Remove engine cover. See ENGINE COVER  under MISCELLANEOUS. Note spark plug wire location before removing. Using Spark Plug Wire Remover, grasp and twist spark plug wire boot back and forth on the spark plug insulator to release the connector. See Fig 1. Remove any foreign material from spark plug wells with compressed air before removing spark plugs. Remove spark plugs. Inspect spark plugs. Check and adjust gap to.052-.056" (1.32-1.42 mm). To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure spark plug wire position noted during removal procedure. Apply Silicone Dielectric Compound to inside of spark plug wire boots. Tighten spark plugs to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
