P1A04 - Generator Shutdown Circuit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
P1A04 - GENERATOR SHUTDOWN CIRCUIT

Description:  The transaxle control module (TCM) continuously monitors the generator shutdown (GSDN) circuit and the controller area network (CAN) signal for a GSDN request from the powertrain control module (PCM). This DTC is set when the PCM requests generator shutdown through the CAN signal or if there is a GSDN circuit concern. The generator inverter will be disabled.
Possible Causes:
  • GSDN circuit open
  • GSDN circuit short to PWR or GND
  • PCM GSDN request
  • Damaged TCM
  • Damaged PCM
Diagnostic Aids:  With the PCM and TCM connected and with the key in ON position, check the GSDN signal frequency. If the frequency is between 49 and 75 Hz DC, no circuit problem is indicated and PCM generator shutdown is requested.
