P0A05 - Motor Electronics Coolant Pump (MECP) Control Circuit Open

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
P0A05 - MOTOR ELECTRONICS COOLANT PUMP (MECP) CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN

Description:  The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the MECP primary circuit output. The test fails if: the PCM grounds the MECP circuit, and excessive current draw is detected on the MECP circuit; or, with the MECP circuit not grounded by the PCM, voltage is not detected on the MECP circuit. The PCM expects to detect VPWR voltage coming through the MECP relay coil to the MECP circuit.
Possible Causes:
  • Open or shorted MECP circuit
  • Open VPWR to the MECP relay
  • Damaged MECP relay
  • Damaged harness
Diagnostic Aids:  When the MECP_F PID displays YES, a concern is present.
