Removal (4R70W)

- Disconnect battery ground cable. Raise and support vehicle. On 4WD vehicles, remove front axle shaft. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.NOTE: Mark driveshaft flange and rear axle pinion flange for correct alignment during installation.
- Drain the transmission fluid and remove the fluid pan and filter. See DRAINING & REFILLING under LUBRICATION.
- Remove the Transmission Range (TR), sensor. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR .
- Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring bolt. See Fig 1. Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring. Use a shop cloth to protect the transmission case surface. Remove the manual control lever shaft retaining pin. See Fig 2.
- Remove the manual control lever shaft nut and slide the manual control lever shaft out of the case. Remove the manual valve detent lever (1). See Fig 3. Remove the parking lever actuating rod (2).
- Use care not to damage the manual control lever shaft bore. New seal may leak due to damage to the bore. Remove the manual control lever shaft seal. See Fig 4.
