Installation (4R70W)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 13 other vehicles, including the 2003 Lincoln Navigator, 2003 Lincoln Blackwood, 2003 Ford RV Cutaway, 2003 Ford Pickup, and 2003 Ford F550 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Using the Shift Shaft Fluid Seal Installer (307-050), install the manual control lever shaft seal. See Fig 1. Install the parking lever actuating rod (2). See Figure. Install the manual valve detent lever (1).
  2. Install the manual control lever shaft. Install the manual control lever shaft nut. Install the manual control lever shaft retaining pin. See Figure.
  3. Install the manual valve detent lever spring. See Figure. Install the manual valve detent lever spring bolt and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the TR sensor. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR .
  4. Adjust the TR sensor. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  5. With the gearshift lever in overdrive, connect the shift cable. Install the TR sensor harness connector. Install the transmission oil filter and pan. See DRAINING & REFILLING  under LUBRICATION.
  6. On 4WD vehicles, install front axle shaft. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES. Connect battery ground cable.
  7. Lower vehicle. Fill the transmission with appropriate fluid to proper level and check for correct transmission operation. See LUBRICATION .
