Installation (4R100)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 13 other vehicles, including the 2003 Lincoln Navigator, 2003 Lincoln Blackwood, 2003 Ford RV Cutaway, 2003 Ford Pickup, and 2003 Ford F550 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Clean seal bore opening with solvent. Using appropriate Seal Installer (307-050), install seal. See Fig 1. Install manual control lever shaft, inner detent lever, park actuating rod assembly and nut. See Figure.
  2. Tighten manual control lever nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure inner detent lever is seated on flats of shaft, and rod assembly is through guide plate. Inner lever pin MUST BE aligned with manual valve.
  3. Tighten inner detent lever nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure manual valve detent spring is on inner detent lever and aligned with inner detent.
  4. Install manual lever shaft retaining pin. See Figure. Install manual lever position sensor finger tight. Lubricate NEW seal with automatic transmission fluid. Install NEW fluid filter assembly.
    NOTE: The oil pan gasket is reusable, only use if not damaged.
  5. Apply petroleum jelly to oil pan gasket. Install oil pan and gasket. See DRAINING & REFILLING  under LUBRICATION. Tighten bolts alternately to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Install TR sensor. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Install shift cable. Adjust shift cable, if necessary. See SHIFT CABLE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  8. Check fluid level, fill with clean automatic transmission fluid. See CHECKING FLUID LEVEL  under LUBRICATION. Check for correct operation.
