Extension Housing Seal (4R70W): Removal

  1. Drain the transmission fluid. See DRAINING & REFILLING  under LUBRICATION. Mark the driveshaft flange and the rear companion flange for correct alignment during assembly. See Figure.
  2. Remove the 4 driveshaft bolts. Separate the driveshaft from the transmission. Use a high-lift transmission jack to support the transmission. Remove the 2 transmission mount nuts. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove the transmission crossmember bolts. See Fig 2. Remove the transmission crossmember.
  4. Lower the transmission to access the extension housing seal. Using the Slide Hammer (100-001) and Seal Remover (307-048), remove the extension housing seal. See Fig 3.
