Electronic Pressure Control Solenoid (4R70W): Removal

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 13 other vehicles, including the 2003 Lincoln Navigator, 2003 Lincoln Blackwood, 2003 Ford RV Cutaway, 2003 Ford Pickup, and 2003 Ford F550 Super Duty. CAUTION: Do not pull on the molded lead frame. This may cause damage to the connector ends.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Drain the transmission fluid and remove the transmission fluid pan and filter. See DRAINING & REFILLING  under LUBRICATION.
  2. Remove the manual control lever. See MANUAL LEVER SHAFT & SEAL . Carefully pry up on the locking tabs to disconnect the solenoids. Disconnect the molded lead frame from the solenoids. See Fig 1.
  3. Disconnect the shift solenoids "A" and "B". Disconnect the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC). Disconnect the Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) solenoid.
  4. Disconnect the bulkhead inter-connector. Remove the bolt and EPC solenoid bracket. See Fig 2. Remove the EPC solenoid.
