Pinpoint Test B: The Headlamp On Warning Chime Is Inoperative

  1. B1 CHECK THE DRIVER DOOR SWITCH PID 
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Driver Door Switch PID
    • Monitor the instrument cluster driver door switch PID while opening and closing the driver door.
    • Does the PID agree with the door position? 
    1. YES  : Go to  B2.
    2. NO  : REFER to INTERIOR LIGHTING article to continue diagnosis of the door ajar switch.
  2. B2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ILLUMINATION 
    • Verify the instrument cluster illumination operates correctly.
    • Does the instrument cluster illumination operate correctly? 
    1. YES  : Go to  B3.
    2. NO  : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION article to continue diagnosis of the instrument cluster illumination.
  3. B3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
