Pinpoint Test D: No Power In Start

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Ford Pickup, 2007 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2007 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2007 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the flex probe kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
  1. D1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE IGNITION SWITCH
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250
    • Measure the voltage between ground and:
      • ignition switch C250-2, circuit 325 (DB/OG), harness side.
      • ignition switch C250-9, circuit 1050 (LG/VT), harness side.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
    1. YES  : Go to  D2.
    2. NO  : Verify that CJB fuse 103 (30A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit 1050 (LG/VT).

Verify that CJB fuse 116 (30A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit 325 (DB/OG).

TEST the system for normal operation.

  2. D2 CHECK CIRCUIT 16 (RD/LG) FOR AN OPEN
    • Measure the resistance between ignition switch C250-1, circuit 16 (RD/LG), harness side and CJB C270c-4, circuit 16 (RD/LG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  D3.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 16 (RD/LG). TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. D3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1522 (DG) FOR AN OPEN
    • Measure the resistance between ignition switch C250-5, circuit 1522 (DG), harness side and CJB C270b-8, circuit 1522 (DG), harness side.
Fig 3: Checking Circuit 1522 (DG) For Open

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  D4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1522 (DG). TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. D4 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH
    • Carry out the Ignition Switch Continuity Check. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING.
    • Does the ignition switch test OK?
    1. YES  : REFER to STARTING SYSTEM - GASOLINE ENGINES article or STARTING SYSTEM - DIESEL ENGINE article to diagnose the starting system.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to Ignition Switch  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
