Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of electrical damage:
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Electrical
    • Bulbs
    • Central junction box (CJB):
      • Fuse 35 (10A)
      • Fuse 41 (10A)
    • Circuitry
    • Vehicle security module
    • Instrument cluster
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
    4. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
    5. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
  5. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
    • Check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
    • Check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
  6. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • Verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
    • Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
  7. Carry out the network test:
    • If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
  8. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the instrument cluster and vehicle security module.
  9. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) or the Vehicle Security Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. For all other DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
  10. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart .
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX

DTC Description Action
B1320 Driver Door Ajar Circuit Open Go to Pinpoint Test C .
B1328 Passenger Door Ajar Circuit Open Go to Pinpoint Test C .
B1342 ECU is Faulted CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER article. TEST the system for normal operation.
All other DTCs - REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.

B1322 Driver Door Ajar Circuit Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test C .
B1330 Passenger Door Ajar Circuit Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test C .
B1338 Door Ajar RR Circuit Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test C .
B1342 ECU is Faulted CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new vehicle security module. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
B1574 Door Ajar LR Circuit Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test C .
All other DTCs - REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
