Removal And Installation

  1. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN article.

  3. Twist off the cap from the ignition lock cylinder.

  5. Remove the ignition lock cylinder.
    • Use a 1/8-inch diameter drill bit to drill out the lock cylinder retaining pin.
    • Use a 3/8-inch diameter drill to drill down the middle of the ignition lock key slot until the ignition lock cylinder breaks loose.
    • Remove and discard the ignition lock cylinder and drill shavings from the steering column.

    CAUTION: Carefully note the position of the steering column lock gear, bearing and retainer prior to removal.
  7. Remove the bearing retainer.

  9. Remove the bearing and the gear.
    • Thoroughly clean all drill shavings from the steering column and inspect it for damage.
  10. NOTE: Use a new ignition lock cylinder.
  11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Verify ignition lock cylinder operation.
