WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford RV Cutaway, 2002 Ford F450 Super Duty, 2002 Ford Econoline, 2002 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2002 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: This test applies only to diesel models.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster Black 12-pin harness connector C220b. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster 12-pin connector C220b (component side) terminal No. 11 (Black/Pink wire). See Figure. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, replace instrument cluster and test system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster Black 12-pin harness connector C220b. Disconnect PCM Gray 104-pin harness connector C175. PCM is located in left rear of engine compartment, near brake master cylinder. Measure resistance of Black/Pink wire between instrument cluster Black 12-pin harness connector C220b terminal No. 11 and PCM Gray 104-pin harness connector C175 terminal No. 70. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, diagnose WAIT TO START warning indicator problem. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS EEC-V - DIESEL article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Pink wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
