Test O: Speed Control Indicator Is Inoperative

- Road test vehicle to verify cruise control is operational. If cruise control operates correctly and speed control indicator is never on, go to next step. If cruise control operates correctly and speed control indicator is always on, go to step 4. If cruise control does not operate correctly, repair cruise control system. See CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS -- ECONOLINE .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. On diesel engines, disconnect PCM harness connector C175. On gasoline engines, disconnect speed control module harness connector C122. On gasoline engines, connect a fused jumper wire (10-amp) between speed control module harness connector C122 terminal No. 1 (Pink/Light Blue wire) and ground. See Fig 1. On diesel engines, connect a fused jumper wire (10-amp) between PCM harness connector C175 terminal No. 45 (Pink/Light Blue wire) and ground. See Figure. On gasoline engines, if speed control indicator illuminates, replace speed control module. On diesel engines, if speed control indicator illuminates, go to step 5. On all models, if speed control indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220c. On gasoline engine, measure resistance in Pink/Light Blue wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220c terminal No. 8 and speed control module harness connector C122 terminal No. 1. See Figure and Fig 1 . On diesel engine, measure resistance in Pink/Light Blue wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220c terminal No. 8 and PCM harness connector C175 terminal No. 45. See Figure and Figure . On all models, if resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster and test system operation. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire and test system operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220c. On gasoline engines, disconnect speed control module harness connector C122. On diesel engines, disconnect PCM harness connector C175. Measure resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C220c terminal No. 8 (Pink/Light Blue wire) and ground. See Figure. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster and test system operation. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Pink/Light Blue wire and test system operation.
- Disconnect PCM harness connector. Inspect PCM harness connector for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect PCM harness connector, ensuring it is connected properly. Connect all disconnected connectors. Operate system. If fault is still present, replace PCM. If fault is not present, system is operating properly at this time.
