Test J: Charge Warning Indicator Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford RV Cutaway, 2002 Ford F450 Super Duty, 2002 Ford Econoline, 2002 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2002 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster White 12-pin harness connector C220c. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster White 12-pin harness connector C220c terminal No. 7 (White/Yellow wire). See Figure. If voltage is more than 10 volts and vehicle is equipped with a single generator, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts and vehicle is equipped with dual generators, go to step  3. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in White/Yellow wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect generator Gray 3-pin harness connector C102a. Measure resistance of Light Green/Red wire between instrument cluster White 12-pin harness connector C220c terminal No. 5 and generator Gray 3-pin harness connector C102a terminal No. 3. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair charging system as necessary. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in CHARGING SYSTEM in ELECTRICAL. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Green/Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PCM Gray 104-pin harness connector C175. PCM is located in left rear of engine compartment, near brake master cylinder. Measure resistance of Gray/Light Blue wire between PCM Gray 104-pin harness connector C175 terminal No. 67 and instrument cluster White 16-pin harness connector C220c terminal No. 5. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair charging system as necessary. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in CHARGING SYSTEM in ELECTRICAL. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Gray/Blue wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
