Test H: Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative

  1. Engage parking brake. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If Red BRAKE warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If Red BRAKE warning indicator illuminates, system is operating properly at this time.
  2. Disconnect parking brake switch Black 1-pin harness connector C2015. Parking brake switch is located near left kick panel. Connect 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and parking brake switch Black 1-pin harness connector C2015 Light Green/Red wire terminal. If Red BRAKE warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If Red BRAKE warning indicator illuminates, replace parking brake switch. See Retest system operation.
    3. NOTE: Light Green/Red wire from parking brake switch Black 1-pin connector C2015 changes to Violet/Yellow between parking brake switch Black 1-pin connector C2015 and instrument cluster White 12-pin harness connector C220c terminal No. 4. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster White 12-pin harness connector C220c. Measure resistance of Light Green/Red wire between parking brake switch Black 1-pin harness connector C2015 and instrument cluster White 12-pin harness connector C220c terminal No. 4. See Fig 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in circuit between instrument cluster, parking brake switch, and 4-Wheel Anti-lock Brake System (4WABS) control module (if equipped). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . On diesel models, also check circuit to low vacuum warning switch 3-pin harness connector C164. Low vacuum warning switch is located in left front of engine compartment. Retest system operation.
