Exhaust Y-Pipe - Gasoline Engines: Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Ford Pickup, 2007 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2007 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2007 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Do not tighten any fasteners until all components are aligned.
- If removed, install the HO2S.
- Tighten to 46 Nm (34 lb-ft).
- If removed, install the catalyst monitor sensors.
- Tighten to 46 Nm (34 lb-ft).
- Position the exhaust Y-pipe.
- Loosely install the 4 exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts
- Install a new exhaust Y-pipe flange gasket and loosely install the 4 catalytic converter exhaust flange nuts.
- To seat the LH exhaust manifold-to-exhaust Y-pipe nuts, tighten the nuts in the following sequence.
- Tighten the lower LH exhaust manifold-to-exhaust Y-pipe nut to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
- Tighten the upper LH exhaust manifold-to-exhaust Y-pipe nut to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Tighten the lower LH exhaust manifold-to-exhaust Y-pipe nut to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- To seat the RH exhaust manifold-to-Y-pipe nuts, tighten the nuts in the following sequence.
- Tighten the lower RH exhaust manifold-to-exhaust Y-pipe nut to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
- Tighten the upper RH exhaust manifold-to-exhaust Y-pipe nut to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Tighten the lower RH exhaust manifold-to-exhaust Y-pipe nut to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Tighten the 4 exhaust Y-pipe flange nuts
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Connect the 2 heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) and the 2 catalytic monitor electrical connectors.
NOTE:
Apply anti-seize to the threads of the HO2S before installation.
NOTE:
Vehicles with dual catalytic converters in the Y-pipe have catalyst monitors in the Y-pipe. Vehicles with standard Y-pipe with no catalytic converter have a single catalyst monitor in the underbody catalytic converter.
NOTE:
Apply anti-seize to the threads of the catalyst monitor sensor before installation.
NOTE:
Install a new exhaust Y-pipe flange gasket.
NOTE:
Make sure the exhaust Y-pipe is aligned to provide maximum clearance to adjacent parts.
