Oil Pan - Manual Transmission: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Remove the throttle body spacer. For additional information, refer to FUEL CHARGING AND CONTROLS - 6.8L (3V) article.
  3. Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR AND REGULATOR article.
  4. Remove the 2 bolts and position the cooling fan shroud onto the cooling fan.

  5. Install the special tools.

  6. Remove the flywheel. For additional information, refer to Flywheel  in this article.
  7. Drain the engine oil.
  8. Remove and discard the oil filter.

  9. Loosen the threaded shaft and position the oil cooler aside.

  10. If equipped, remove the nut and position the transmission oil cooler tube support bracket aside.

  11. Remove the 3 LH engine mount nuts and loosen the 3 RH engine mount nuts.
  12. Remove the nut and the starter wiring harness support bracket.

  13. Using the special tools, raise the engine.

  14. Using a suitable jack, raise and support the rear of the cylinder block.

  15. Remove the 18 bolts and partially lower the oil pan.
  16. Remove the 3 bolts and position the oil pump screen and pickup tube into the oil pan.
    17. NOTE: Be careful when removing the oil pan gasket. It is reusable.
  17. Remove the oil pan and the oil pump screen and pickup tube.
    • Inspect the oil pan gasket for damage.
    • If damaged, discard the oil pan gasket and the oil pan-to-oil pump gaskets.
    • Discard the oil pump screen and pickup tube O-ring seal.
