Valve Cover - RH: Removal

- If equipped, remove the transmission filler tube. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - TORQSHIFT article.
- Remove the RH ignition coils. For additional information, refer to ENGINE IGNITION - 5.4L AND 6.8L (3V) article.
- Disconnect the quick connect coupling and remove the crankcase vent tube. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL article.
- Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer from the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve bracket.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose and the wiring harness retainer from the EVAP canister purge valve bracket and stud bolt.
- Disconnect the EVAP vapor tube quick connect couplings and the EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL article.
- Remove the 3 nuts and the EVAP canister purge valve assembly.
- Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the valve cover.
- Fully loosen the 15 fasteners and remove the RH valve cover and gasket.
- Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- Discard the valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
CAUTION:
When removing the valve cover, make sure to avoid damaging the VCT solenoid.
NOTE:
The fasteners are part of the valve cover and should not be removed.
