Condition Possible Sources Action
  • No communication with the ABS module
  • Fuse(s)
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • ABS module
  • The yellow ABS warning indicator is always/never on
  • DTCs present in the ABS module
  • ABS module
  • Instrument cluster
  • RETRIEVE and RECORD any ABS module DTCs. Go to the ABS Module DTC Chart. If there are no DTCs present in the ABS module, REFER to Diagnosis and Testing in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER article.
  • The traction control indicator (in the instrument cluster) is always/never on
  • DTCs present in the ABS module or PCM
  • PCM
  • Instrument cluster
  • RETRIEVE and RECORD any ABS module DTCs. Go to the ABS Module DTC Chart. If there are no DTCs present in the ABS module, RETRIEVE and RECORD any PCM DTCs. REFER to the Content Not Found article. If there are no PCM DTCs, REFER to Diagnosis and Testing in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER article.
  • Spongy brake pedal with no warning indicator
  • Air in brake hydraulic system
  • Unintended ABS activation
  • Mismatched tire sizes or over/underinflation
  • VERIFY that all tires are the correct size for the vehicle and that all tires are inflated to the correct pressure as indicated on the vehicle certification (VC) label. INSTALL new tires or ADJUST the tire pressure as necessary.
 
  • Wheel speed sensor ring(s)
 
  • Incorrect axle ratio configuration in ABS module
  • CHECK the ABS module axle ratio against as-built information, RECONFIGURE the ABS module as necessary.
 
  • Wheel speed sensor(s)
  • ABS module
  • The traction control system is inoperative
  • Traction control system is turned off
  • Traction control system is not configured
  • Fuse
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • ABS wheel speed sensor fault
  • High-speed controller area network (HS-CAN) bus fault
  • PCM
  • The traction control system cannot be disabled/enabled
  • Fuse
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Traction control switch
  • PCM
  • The traction control OFF indicator (in the switch) is always on
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Traction control switch
  • PCM
