Pinpoint Test F: The Traction Control System Cannot Be Disabled/Enabled Or The Traction Control System Is Inoperative

CAUTION:
Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
- F1 RECONFIGURE THE PCM
- Connect the diagnostic tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Module Reconfiguration PCM
- Reconfigure the PCM.
- Test drive the vehicle and verify that the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : Go to F2.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a incorrectly configured PCM.
- F2 CHECK FOR DTCs
- Check for any ABS module, PCM or communication DTCs.
- Are any DTCs present?
- YES
: For ABS module DTCs, REFER to the ABS Module DTC Chart.
For PCM DTCs, REFER to the INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE ENGINES article.
For communication DTCs, REFER to the Master DTC Chart in MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
- NO : Go to F3.
- F3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Traction Control Switch C280
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between ground and:
- traction control switch C280-1, circuit 640 (BK), harness side.
- traction control switch C280-6, circuit 640 (RD/YE), harness side.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to F4.
- NO : VERIFY CJB fuse 15 (5A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the affected circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.
- F4 CHECK THE TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH
- Measure the resistance between traction control switch C280-1, component side, and traction control switch C280-2, component side while pressing and releasing the switch.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms with the switch released and less than 5 ohms with the switch pressed?
- YES : Go to F5.
- NO : INSTALL a new traction control switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F5 CHECK CIRCUIT 959 (GY) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: PCM C175b
- Measure the resistance between PCM C175b-64, circuit 959 (GY), harness side and traction control switch C280-2, circuit 959 (GY), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to F6.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 959 (GY). TEST the system for normal operation.
- F6 CHECK CIRCUIT 959 (GY) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between PCM C175b-64, circuit 959 (GY), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- YES : Go to F7.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 959 (GY). TEST the system for normal operation.
- F7 CHECK CIRCUIT 959 (GY) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between PCM C175b-64, circuit 959 (GY), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : REPAIR circuit 959 (GY). TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : Go to F8.
- F8 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Check PCM C175b for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- spread terminal.
- Connect: PCM C175b
- Make sure the connector is seated correctly then operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
