Pinpoint Test X: The Trailer Battery Charging Is Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Lincoln Mark LT and 2007 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- X1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE TRAILER TOW CONNECTOR
- Disconnect: Trailer Tow C439a
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the trailer tow C439a-5, circuit 49 (OG), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : The vehicle is operating correctly. SEND the trailer to an authorized camper/trailer repair facility.
- NO : VERIFY the CJB fuse 106 (30A) is OK. If OK, go to X2 .
- X2 CHECK THE TRAILER TOW BATTERY CHARGING RELAY
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Trailer Tow Battery Charging Relay
- Carry out the trailer tow battery charging relay component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING.
- Is the relay OK?
- YES : Go to X3.
- NO : INSTALL a new trailer tow battery charging relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
- X3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE TRAILER TOW BATTERY CHARGING RELAY
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the trailer tow battery charging relay pin 86, harness side and ground; and between the trailer tow battery charging relay pin 30, harness side and ground.
- Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to X4.
- NO : VERIFY the CJB fuse 13 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
- X4 CHECK THE TRAILER TOW BATTERY CHARGING RELAY FOR GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the trailer tow battery charging relay pin 85, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to X5.
- NO : REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
- X5 CHECK CIRCUIT 49 (OG) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: CJB C270n
- Connect a fused (30A) jumper wire between the trailer tow battery charge relay pin 30, harness side and the trailer tow battery charge relay pin 87, circuit 49 (OG), harness side.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the CJB C270n pin 4, circuit 49 (OG), component side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
