Removal And Installation

CAUTION: If removing more than one valve tappet, mark the components removed for correct location.
  1. Remove the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Lower Intake Manifold  in this article.
  2. Remove the push rods. For additional information, refer to Push Rod  in this article.
  3. CAUTION: If the tappet guide plates are to be reused, they must be installed in their original locations. Mark the tappet guide plates for location.
  4. Remove the 4 tappet guide plate bolts and the 2 tappet guide plates.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  5. CAUTION: If the valve tappets are to be reused, they must be installed in their original locations. Mark the valve tappets for location.
  6. Remove the valve tappets.
  7. Inspect the valve tappets. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  8. NOTE: Lubricate the valve tappets with clean engine oil.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
