Exhaust Manifold - RH: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING - F-150 & MARK LT article.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES - F-150 & MARK LT
  3. Remove the throttle body (TB). For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM AND ENGINE CONTROLS - 5.4L (3V) - F-150 & MARK LT
  4. Remove the 3 bolts and position the power steering fluid reservoir aside.

  5. Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR AND REGULATOR - F-150 & MARK LT
  6. Remove the upper radiator sight shield.

  7. Remove the 2 bolts, release the cooling fan shroud from the bottom of the radiator and position the cooling fan shroud away from the radiator.

  8. Install the special tool.

  9. If equipped, remove the 4 bolts and the skid plate.

  11. Remove and discard the 4 exhaust Y-pipe flange nuts
  12. Remove the 2 exhaust Y-pipe-dual catalytic converter hanger bracket bolts from the crossmember.

  13. Loosen the 2 transmission mount nuts.

  14. Remove the starter. For additional information, refer to STARTING SYSTEM - F-150 & MARK LT
  15. Remove the 2 RH engine support insulator nuts and washer.

  16. Remove the LH engine support insulator bolt.

  17. Using the special tools, raise the engine.

  18. Remove the RH inner fenderwell. For additional information, refer to BODY PANEL SYSTEM - FRONT END BODY PANELS - F150 & MARK LT
  19. Remove the 3 A/C compressor bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.
  20. Remove and discard the 4 lower exhaust manifold nuts.
  21. Using a commercially available stud remover, remove and discard the 4 lower exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head studs.
  22. Remove and discard the 4 upper exhaust manifold nuts.
  23. Remove the RH exhaust manifold and discard the exhaust manifold gaskets.
  24. Using a commercially available stud remover, remove and discard the 4 upper exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head studs.
