Removal And Installation

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
- Disconnect the LH front and rear heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connectors.
- Using the special tool, remove the 2 LH HO2S.
- To install, tighten to 46 N.m (34 lb-ft).
- Remove the 4 exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter nuts.
- To install, tighten to 40 N.m (30 lb-ft).
- Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the exhaust support bracket from the crossmember.
- To install, tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb-ft).
- Remove the LH dual converter Y-pipe assembly aside.
- Remove and discard the 8 nuts and remove the exhaust manifold.
- To install, tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb-ft) in the sequence shown.
- Remove and discard the exhaust manifold gaskets.
- Remove and discard the 8 exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head studs.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
- Clean the sealing surfaces with metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- Inspect the exhaust manifold for flatness. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
Install new exhaust manifold nuts.
NOTE:
Install new exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head studs.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These may cause scratches and gouges resulting in leak paths. Use a plastic scraper to clean the sealing surfaces.
