Pinpoint Test C: Transmission Range (Tr) Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Milan and 2006 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Refer to Figure .
  1. C1 VERIFY TR SENSOR ALIGNMENT
    • Verify TR sensor alignment.
    • Is the TR sensor correctly aligned?

    Yes  : GO to C2.

No  : ADJUST the TR sensor. TEST the system for normal operation.

  2. C2 VERIFY SHIFT CABLE/LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT

    Yes  : GO to C3.

No  : ADJUST the shift cable/linkage REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS . TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. C3 CHECK TR SENSOR CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: TR Sensor Connector C1537.
    • Disconnect: TCM Connector C2352b.
    • Measure the resistance between TR sensor C1537 pins 2 and 3 harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

    Yes  : GO to C4.

No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. C4 CHECK TR SENSOR CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO POWER
    • Disconnect: Transaxle Connector C1534.
    • Measure the voltage between TR sensor C1537 pins 2 and 3 harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

    Yes  : GO to C6.

No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  6. C6 CHECK THE TR SENSOR RESISTANCE
    • Measure the resistance between TR sensor pins 2 and 3 component side, while shifting the transmission manual lever as follows:
      • PARK position, 3370-5230 ohms
      • REVERSE position, 1250-1750 ohms
      • NEUTRAL position, 630-870 ohms
      • DRIVE position, 330-450 ohms
      • LOW position, 150-250 ohms
