Pinpoint Test C: Transmission Range (Tr) Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Milan and 2006 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Refer to Figure
.
NOTE:
Refer to TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SENSOR DIAGNOSIS CHART .
- C1 VERIFY TR SENSOR ALIGNMENT
- Verify TR sensor alignment.
- Is the TR sensor correctly aligned?
Yes : GO to C2.
No : ADJUST the TR sensor. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C2 VERIFY SHIFT CABLE/LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT
- Verify that the shift cable/linkage is correctly adjusted. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS .
- Is the shift cable/linkage correctly adjusted?
Yes : GO to C3.
No : ADJUST the shift cable/linkage REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS . TEST the system for normal operation.
- C3 CHECK TR SENSOR CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: TR Sensor Connector C1537.
- Disconnect: TCM Connector C2352b.
- Measure the resistance between TR sensor C1537 pins 2 and 3 harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes : GO to C4.
No : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C4 CHECK TR SENSOR CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Disconnect: Transaxle Connector C1534.
- Measure the voltage between TR sensor C1537 pins 2 and 3 harness side and ground.
- Is voltage present?
Yes : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
No : GO to C5.
- C5 CHECK TR SENSOR CIRCUITRY FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between TR sensor C1537-2 and TCM C2352b-5; and between TR sensor C1537-3 and TCM C2352b-21.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes : GO to C6.
No : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C6 CHECK THE TR SENSOR RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance between TR sensor pins 2 and 3 component side, while shifting the transmission manual lever as follows:
- PARK position, 3370-5230 ohms
- REVERSE position, 1250-1750 ohms
- NEUTRAL position, 630-870 ohms
- DRIVE position, 330-450 ohms
- LOW position, 150-250 ohms
- Are the resistances within the expected values?
Yes : INSTALL a new TCM. TEST the system for normal operation.
No : INSTALL a new TR sensor. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Measure the resistance between TR sensor pins 2 and 3 component side, while shifting the transmission manual lever as follows:
