Valve Cover - LH: Installation

  1. Clean the valve cover, cylinder head and front cover sealing surfaces with metal surface cleaner and install new valve cover and spark plug cavity gaskets.
  2. NOTE: The valve cover must be installed and the bolts and stud bolts tightened within 4 minutes of sealant application.

  3. Apply an 8 mm (0.31 in) dot of silicone gasket sealant to the front cover-to-cylinder head joints and the camshaft seal retainer-to-cylinder head joints.
  4. Position the valve cover and install the bolts and stud bolts.
    • Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  5. If equipped, install the coolant pump drive pulley cover and the 2 nuts.
    • Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  6. Position the wiring harness and attach the 2 pin-type retainers to the valve cover.
  7. Attach the 6 wiring harness retainers to the valve cover stud bolts.
  8. Position the oil level indicator tube and install the stud bolt.
    • Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  9. Install the oil level indicator.
  10. Attach the power steering tube retainer to the valve cover stud bolt.
  11. Connect the LH HO2S electrical connector and pin type retainer.
  12. Connect the VCT solenoid electrical connector.
  13. Install the crankcase ventilation tube.
  14. Install the LH ignition coil-on-plugs. For additional information, refer to ENGINE IGNITION - 3.0L (4V) .
