Condition Possible Sources Action
  • Clicking, popping or grinding noises while turning
  • Inadequate or contaminated lubrication in the constant velocity (CV) joint
  • INSPECT, CLEAN and LUBRICATE as necessary.
  • Another component contacting the halfshaft
  • INSPECT and REPAIR as necessary.
  • Wheel bearings
  • Circlips not fully seated and locked
  • INSPECT and REPAIR as necessary.
  • Brake components
  • Suspension components
  • Steering components
  • Shudder, vibration during acceleration
  • High CV joint operating angles caused by incorrect ride height
  • CHECK the ride height and VERIFY the spring rate. REPAIR as necessary.
  • CV joint
  • INSPECT and INSTALL new halfshafts as necessary.
  • Front suspension components
  • CHECK for worn suspension bushings and component damage. REPAIR as necessary.
  • Vibration at speeds greater than 35 mph
  • Out-of-balance wheels or tires
  • BALANCE the wheel and tire assemblies or INSTALL new wheels or tires as necessary.
  • Incorrectly seated CV joint in the front wheel hub
  • Lateral and radial tire and wheel runout
  • CV joint worn
  • INSTALL a new halfshaft.
