Pinpoint Test C: No Power In Run

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Montego, 2006 Ford Freestyle, and 2006 Ford Five Hundred. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
  1. C1 CHECK CIRCUITS 1050 (LG/VT) AND 1716 (GY/YE) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Smart Junction Box (SJB) C2280b.
    • Key in ACCESSORY position.
    • Measure the voltage between:
      • SJB C2280b-4, circuit 1716 (GY/YE), harness side and ground.
      • SJB C2280b-32, circuit 1050 (LG/VT), harness side and ground.
    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes:  GO to  C6.

    No:  GO to  C2.

  2. C2 CHECK CIRCUIT 1050 (LG/VT) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250.
    • Measure the resistance between ignition switch C250-1, circuit 1050 (LG/VT), harness side, and SJB C2208b-32, circuit 1050 (LG/VT), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes:  GO to  C3.

    No:  REPAIR circuit 1050 (LG/VT) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. C3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1050 (LG/VT) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between SJB C2208b-32, circuit 1050 (LG/VT), harness side, and ground.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 

    Yes:  GO to  C4.

    No:  REPAIR circuit 1050 (LG/VT) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. C4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1716 (GY/YE) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between SJB C2208b-4, circuit 1716 (GY/YE), harness side and ignition switch C250-6, circuit 1716 (GY/YE), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes:  GO to  C5.

    No:  REPAIR circuit 1716 (GY/YE) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

  5. C5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1716 (GY/YE) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between SJB C2208b-4, circuit 1716 (GY/YE), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 

    Yes:  INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to IGNITION SWITCH  . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No:  REPAIR circuit 1716 (GY/YE) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.

  6. C6 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
      • spread terminals.
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes:  INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION . REPEAT the self-test.

    No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
