Seat Backrest - Front, With Seat Integrated Restraints (SIR): Disassembly

- Remove the affected seat. For additional information, refer to SEAT - FRONT, WITH SEAT INTEGRATED RESTRAINTS (SIR) .
- Remove the side shield. For additional information, refer to SEAT CONTROL SWITCH - WITH SEAT INTEGRATED RESTRAINTS (SIR) .
- Remove the nut and safety belt anchor.
- Release the side and lower attachments. Slide the seat backrest back panel down to remove.
- Remove the head restraint.
- Pull the head restraint out to the end of travel. Press the release button and pull the head restraint rod past its stop position.
- Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, press the release tab on the second head restraint rod guide and pull the head restraint free of the seat back.
- Using an appropriate pry tool, press the release tab in and remove the head restraint rod guides and discard.
- The release tab is located beneath the head restraint release tab.
- Remove the LH and RH and the front tower cap screw covers. Remove the 4 tower cap attachment screws and remove the tower cap cover by feeding safety belt through cover slot.
- Remove the 2 retainer bracket screws and bracket.
- Using an appropriate pry tool, separate and remove the outer and front safety belt web guides.ITEM DESCRIPTION
Item Description 1 Outer web guide 2 Inner web guide 3 Front web guide - Remove the safety belt retractor.
- Remove the anchor bolt.
- Remove the safety belt retractor locating tab.
- Feed the safety belt assembly through the opening in the foam trim upper shoulder.
- Remove the seat backrest frame.
- Release the seat backrest trim fabric from the attachment locations.
- Pull the seat backrest frame from the backrest foam pad.
- Remove the lumbar adjuster basket.
- Cut the lumbar adjuster cable tie strap.
- Release the upper lumbar retainer by pulling upward from the attachment point.
- Rotate the lumbar basket down and release from the lower attachment points.
- Remove the backrest recliner arm trim cover pin-type retainer and remove the trim cover.
- Remove the recliner arm. Using a hammer and dowel, drive out the backrest recliner roll pin and discard it. Lift off the recliner arm from the backrest frame.
NOTE:
Do not allow the safety belt to recoil back into the retractor.
NOTE:
The LH and RH head restraint rod guides are not interchangeable.
NOTE:
Install new units during reassembly. The LH and RH head restraint rod guides will be damaged during removal.
NOTE:
The LH and RH tower cap covers are not interchangeable.
NOTE:
Observe retainer bracket orientation. Do not reverse bracket during assembly.
NOTE:
Do not allow safety belt to recoil back into the retractor.
NOTE:
Safety belt retractors are specific to LH or RH seats and are not interchangeable.
NOTE:
The recliner upper attachment roll pin is not reusable. Install a new service unit that incorporates a "shoulder flare" to limit insertion depth.
