  • INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The distance to empty (DTE)/average fuel economy is inoperative/incorrect
  • Instrument cluster
  • CHECK the operation of the fuel gauge.
    • If the fuel gauge or speedometer does not operate correctly, REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the fuel gauge or the speedometer.
    • If the fuel gauge and speedometer operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The message center display is blank
  • Instrument cluster
  • INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The check fuel cap display is never/always on.
  • Instrument cluster
  • CHECK for powertrain control module (PCM) diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
    • If PCM DTCs are present, REFER to the INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE article to continue diagnosis of the DTCs.
    • If no PCM DTCs are present, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The CHECK GAUGES display is never/always on
  • Gauges
  • Instrument cluster
  • VERIFY the fuel gauge, the voltmeter, and the oil pressure gauge for correct operation.
    • If the gauges do not operate correctly, REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the gauges.
    • If the gauges operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The low fuel display is never/always on
  • Fuel gauge
  • Instrument cluster
  • VERIFY the fuel gauge for correct operation.
    • If the fuel gauge does not operate correctly, REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the fuel gauge.
    • If the fuel gauge operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The door ajar display is never/always on
  • Instrument cluster
  • CHECK the interior lamps for correct operation.
    • If the interior lamps do not operate correctly, REFER to INTERIOR LIGHTING .
    • If the interior lamps operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The CHECK TRAILER, TRAILER FAULT, TBC FAULT or TRAILER DISCONNECTED warning is inoperative/always on
  • Instrument cluster configuration
  • Trailer brake control system
  • OBSERVE the trailer brake warning and confirm customer concern.
    • If the trailer brake warning is inoperative, VERIFY the vehicle is equipped with the trailer brake control system and that the instrument cluster is correctly configured for trailer brakes. REFER to MODULE CONFIGURATION .
    • If the trailer brake warning is always on, REFER to AUXILIARY BRAKE SYSTEM .
